December 2020: Synerise Monthly Roundup

4 min read

It’s been a quite busy month - we released two key features and several improvements which we find a good way to kiss year 2020 goodbye. Let’s jump into the summary of the month!

Domain verification

Check how to prepare domain verification list

The Synerise users have the possibility to confirm the ownership of their domains, which opens the door for the extended management of user accounts within the verified domain. That’s not the only perk! A verified domain enables configuration of single sign-on to Synerise, which in other words means that you and the users whose account is within the verified domain can log in to Synerise through an identity provider that uses SAML 2.0 protocol.

What is domain verification? Let’s assume you are the owner of the example.org domain and your users have accounts in Synerise in this domain (e.g. john.doe@example.org). The verification of your domain will give you full rights to manage all user accounts with the email addresses within the @example.org in your business profile. Remember, that you don’t have to limit yourself to only one domain!

The rest of the users are considered guests to your business profile, which means you can only remove their access to your business profile, set a user role or enforce expiration date of access to your business profile.

We will give you more information about it in a separate blog post. But for the time being, if you’re willing to verify the ownership of your domain right now, you can do it on your own. To make it easier for you, we have prepared a step-by-step guide.

Extended user management

Defining user group by using Extended user management

Domain verification let us organize user accounts into two groups: guest and managed accounts

After you verify the ownership of your domain(s), you gain full rights to manage user accounts within the verified domains. What exactly does that mean to you, an administrator to of a business profile?

Apart from the basic actions you can perform towards guests (remove access to your business profile, set a user role or enforce expiration date of access to your business profile), you can reset a password and two-factor authentication for a user, and delete a user account.

All other users with their accounts within unverified domain are qualified as guests to your business profile and you are constrained with the narrow scope of management.

For more information and instructions, we encourage you to have a look at user management in our documentation.

Single sign-on in Synerise

Perk of verified domain ownership is the possibility to sign in to Synerise with another identity providers, such as Microsoft Azure AD, Okta, Google Workspaces, without the necessity to log in to each of the applications separately.

For the time being, we have already introduced a possibility to sign in to Synerise with Microsoft Azure AD. If you use Azure AD and you want to enable such authorization for your business profile, follow the instructions on how to do it here

Preview of email templates in the code editor

Selecting customer and product ID to use dynamic parameters

Finally, the users have the possibility to get the preview of an email in the code editor as well. After selecting the ID of the customer all dynamic parameters used in the template are replaced with the actual values in the template preview.

An example of a dynamic parameter is {{client.firstname}}, in this case, the Jinjava attribute is replaced with the name of a selected customer in the preview of the email template.

Improvements in Automation

A handful of improvements were also implemented in the Automation module. Have a look at the summary of these improvements:

  • Assigning tags – Just like in the Campaign module, you have the possibility of assigning tags to their journeys. In the near future you will be able to filter out journeys with a selected tag.
  • Journey descriptions - You can also add short descriptions to your journeys to let your fellow users know the goal of the journeys without going into their details.
  • Time zones in the Audience node – You have now the possibility of selecting the time zone for scheduling the Audience node repetitions. All you need to do is create a journey in the Automation module, start the journey with the Audience trigger and select the repeatable option in the settings of the node.
  • Assigning UTM parameters to email campaigns - You can define the UTM parameters for the email campaigns you send through the Automation module. This improvement tops out the work over the Send email node which from now on lets you go through a complete configuration of email campaign in the Automation module.
