How We Joined VivaDrive to Influence the Future of Electromobility cover | Synerise

At Synerise, we believe that thanks to the development of technology, the world can become a better place. That’s why Synerise People are involved in socially responsible projects, including those related to climate protection. One of the areas we support is electromobility. See how we use our systems in cooperation with VivaDrive as part of the Elektro ScaleUp project.

Technology dedicated to electromobility

Electromobility is a global megatrend. The main stimulus for the development of this sector is the desire to become independent of fossil fuels and the reduction of direct emissions from vehicles, which can contribute to improving air quality.

The electromobility market is also an area with high growth potential, which may in turn contribute to growth in other branches of the economy. Many countries, including the United Kingdom, Sweden, Norway and France have adopted a resolution to introduce regulations prohibiting the sale of new fossil fuel vehicles by 2040 at the latest. This is particularly important in such business areas as fleets, insurers or smart cities, where the pressure regarding cost optimization and adaptation to ecological requirements is high.

Digital Fleet by VivaDrive is a solution that facilitates the electrification of the car fleet, as well as the management of mixed fleets consisting of traditional and electric vehicles. It combines driving analytics, gamification and Synerise solutions based on artificial intelligence to optimize fuel consumption and battery charging, car servicing costs, insurance and residual vehicle value.

Sustainable support for electromobility is closely related to the development of advanced technologies. Digital Fleet collects various data:

  • information from the car (when and where it drives, what defects it may have, its level of fuel / energy consumption, data on charging)
  • observations of the driver's behavior (what driving style he has and how he reacts to various corrective actions - e.g. whether he improves his driving technique after participating in a loyalty campaign)
  • a summary of the costs of maintaining the entire fleet (fuel, energy, service costs, insurance costs, etc.).

Synerise provides VivaDrive with its AI-driven technology, thanks to which advanced processing and analysis of collected data is possible. The system detects anomalies and identifies trends which can be used to determine appropriate recommendations for fleet managers. Thanks to this, companies can significantly reduce costs and instruct drivers how to improve their technique, efficiency and driving safety.

On the VivaDrive side, Mateusz Maj (CEO and VP of Product) is responsible for the development of the project:

As the fleet industry makes a rapid transformation into the ‘sustainable’ industry, VivaDrive provides fleet professionals with the building blocks to transform their companies into efficient and ecological organizations. Thanks to our partnership with Synerise, we are able to make our system more effective by introducing AI-based recommendations that help fleet managers and drivers make better decisions that reduce accidents, accurately diagnose problems, reduce TCO costs and effectively introduce new mobility concepts including EV and car-sharing, which has a positive impact on our environment. We are looking forward to working jointly with Synerise on projects that will shape the future of transportation and mobility.”

Synerise supports socially & economically responsible projects

Climate change, decreasing oil reserves, air pollution - all these mean that mobility must be CO2 neutral in the future. There are still some challenges to the full use of electromobility that can be overcome to take advantage of the many benefits of the electronic power chain.

The issue of e-mobility is extremely complex because it is at the crossroads of many industries: it is not just a matter of the electrical or automotive industry and the challenge is not only about the possibilities of energy supply. One of the huge challenges in this area of the economy is to build the right infrastructure and to provide associated technology.

Synerise allows its clients to process large amounts of data and build a process of customer experience and sales at the highest global level. In the project for VivaDrive, we use several different functions of our AI Growth Ecosystem, including:

  • analyzing trends
  • monitoring and detecting driver behaviors that lead to increased fleet costs
  • proposing effective solutions to motivate drivers to improve behavior (for example gamification or loyalty programs)
  • providing a platform for communication between fleet manager, driver and VivaDrive team (web dashboards, application, communication system)

On the Synerise side, Arkadiusz Seredyn (Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer) led the efforts behind the project:

Social responsibility is one of the main values of our company. We support various initiatives related to removing disparities in education and economic levels and we also care about nature and public health. We believe that development of modern technologies can help us all in many fields, and we want to share our knowledge and experience to fight global problems such as poverty, environmental damage, etc. By starting cooperation with VivaDrive, we wanted to take on another challenge, which is the transition of the global business to electromobility. Electric cars promote environmental health and help to reduce smog levels. They are the future of transportation. We are very excited about this partnership and the introduction of further innovations in this field.

We need e-mobility technology in the face of crisis

The number of entities on the electromobility market around the world is constantly growing. The main competitors are global players such as Tesla, Inc., General Motors, Ford Motor Company, BMW and others. Automotive giants are introducing advanced products to the market to meet the growing needs of customers and cooperate with innovative start-ups to constantly develop their business offer.

In the face of the COVID-19 crisis, which introduces unprecedented changes in the macroeconomic environment, regulatory trends and new consumer behavior, the characteristics of mobility can be permanently changed. Some countries may see the crisis as a turning point in order to accelerate the transition to sustainable mobility, while governments in other countries may relax regulatory mandates to support their strained automotive industry.

One of the few positive features of the coronavirus pandemic and the resulting lockdown around the world is that pollution levels have decreased significantly. According to data provided by Carbon Brief, "the pandemic could cause emissions cuts this year in the region of 2,000m tonnes of CO2 (...) As a result, the coronavirus crisis could trigger the largest ever annual fall in CO2 emissions in 2020, more than during any previous economic crisis or period of war".

Despite the crisis, the electric vehicle segment is still taking steps to spread in a global context. The most important factors to implement are programs for the development of specialized infrastructure and technology, financial incentives to fill the cost gap between combustion and electric vehicles, as well as campaigns to increase awareness of the availability of electric vehicles and their properties.

When to switch to electromobility (and why now is the time)

We hope that initiatives such as Digital Fleet will support the transformation of mobility and contribute to making better business and environmentally responsible decisions.

The automotive industry is constantly undergoing transformation due to the changing needs of consumers - new business models such as subscription-based economy, multimodality or car ownership shift require the implementation of top-class technological solutions.

For this reason, Synerise and VivaDrive develop integration and automation systems for various data streams to offer clients the best personalized recommendations for building a sustainable fleet.
