1 Beacon

Beacon is a low-cost, low-powered transmitter equipped with Bluetooth Low Energy or BLE (also called Bluetooth 4.0 or Bluetooth Smart) that can be used to deliver proximity-based, context-aware messages. The beacon doesn’t transmit content, it simply transmits a signal that lets a phone or tablet user determine its distance from the beacon. It can contact our phone application installed on the mobile device and show us the necessary information (e.g. dedicated discount), direct us to a store and much more. Beacons can be placed indoors and outdoors and have a battery life of two years, due to their low energy consumption. The typical range of BLE radio modules is up to 70 m.

2 Beacon Alert

This is an electronic signal emitted by a beacon to your mobile device via Bluetooth protocol. When your device receives a signal it could alert a particular app or show a predefined push notification. Usually beacon alerts are based on proximity – they occur only within a specified location (e.g. when you enter a shop or restaurant).
