Beacon Valley Global and Beacon Valley Hackaton
HG Intelligence, the company from which Synerise derives, was the partner of Beacon Valley Global and Beacon Valley Hackaton. These two events were brought to life to show people how beacons use smart mobile applications to do amazing things. The event was organized by Kontakt.io, our partner and provider of beacon hardware.
The first event, Beacon Valley Hackathon, was organized in Krakow in June, 2015. A few groups of software developers, graphic designers and project managers had only 24 hours to create an application, that could help our city (Krakow) and its citizens. There were three categories of applications they could choose: Beacons for Business (applications to help local business to develop), Beacons for Fun (games, social apps), and Beacon for Good (to make a city more friendly, especially when it comes to offices and public institutions.
For 24 hours, several dozen people worked on more than 10 different projects. The Hackathon turned out be a huge success!
Which application won?
- First place – TMBK – an application that helps to share files like ebooks for free in specific places (eg. conferences)
- Second place – Magic Bus – city navigation system, integrated with Pebble watch, which informs a user how to get from one place to another using public transport.
- Special Award from Krakow Festival Office – Hidden City – application, which shows the user the new face of Krakow – thanks to the application users get descriptions, pictures, videos that show the hidden attractions of the city.
- Special Award from Hub:raum – SigmaPoint – application created for co-working spaces, which allows quick checks on the availabilty of conference rooms.
Beacon Valley Global
After the great success of the Beacon Valley Hackaton in Krakow (June 2015) we decided to take part in the second edition of Beacon Valley Global, which was organised in November of 2015 in four cities around the world: Krakow, New York, London and Guadalajara, by Kontakt.io as well. The idea was similar to the previous event in Krakow, but the new locations brought in more developers from those cities and allowed them to share their ideas about smart city projects.
This time the categories of application subjects were: culture, health, commerce and transportation.

BeaconValley Conference & Hackathon #ExtraOrdinary Edition
Third event – BeaconValley Conference & Hackathon #ExtraOrdinary Edition was organized by Kontakt.io in June, 2016. It consisted of two parts – a conference and a hackaton. Hackers had to create apps empowered by Bluetooth Low Energy in one of 3 streams – MOVE, LOCATE, & FREESTYLE.
This time the hackaton was also a huge success, just look at some numbers:
